Adder Shortlisted for 2018 Manufacturing Champions Award
Adder is delighted to be shortlisted in the Manufacturing Team of the Year category at the 2018 Manufacturing Champions Awards. The awards, run by Manufacturing Management Magazine, aim to showcase the exciting and dynamic achievements in UK manufacturing.
The assembly of the Product X Team spearheaded a dramatic shift in the way Adder manufactures products. Moving from a traditional manufacturing approach, whereby specialist teams manage different elements of the manufacturing process, to a more innovative cell manufacturing model enabled us to achieve maximum process efficiency. This has, in turn, reduced customer lead times and improved the quality of a key high-volume Adder product line.
Ron Jones, Lean Manufacturing Manager at Adder gives us his insight into the changes, “Since implementing the new process we have seen a dramatic improvement in customer lead time, flexibility and level of responsiveness that we can offer to our customers – all of which underpin Adder’s company philosophy and customer centred approach.”
This manufacturing shift required a significant investment in staff to become multi-skilled, which has built a culture of accountability and ownership as well as encouraged, motivated and empowered the team. Jones added, “Witnessing the sense of achievement and can-do attitude in the Product X team gives Adder huge sense of pride.”
“Now into their fifth year, this year’s Manufacturing Champions Awards shortlist is the highest quality yet,” says Chris Beck, editor of Manufacturing Management magazine. “Even making it this far should be a source of pride for everyone involved. It’s encouraging to see that UK manufacturing is thriving and coming up with bold, innovative ideas.”
Stay tuned to find out how we get on when the winners are announced on December 6th 2018.
