Power Station Control
About
A major electricity power station in Asia managing some of the world’s most comprehensive and advanced energy and utility infrastructures.
Challenge
This high yield power station identified the need to update its infrastructure to ensure that the control room was secure and operating effectively. The power station required control room operators to have access to multiple computers located in a separate secure sever room several floors away. The IT team also needed a local port through which they could also manage all computers and determine the
access required.
“The improvement in desk ergonomics has been huge. This is the perfect solution to improve the efficiency and productivity of our control room"
Lead engineer, power station control
Solution
The resident IT team worked with a specialist integration company to conduct a thorough review of the requirements and needs of the
business and operators within the control room.
The ADDERLink™ XDIP, a small point-to-point KVM matrix solution, was installed acting as as a point to point extender from the sever room to the operator control room. This solution was selected for its flexibility and ability to operate over the existing IP infrastructure.
Result
The physical computers have been removed from the working environment into a secure, safe server room. Users at each workstation are now able to instantly switch between any of the connected computers on the network using just one one keyboard and mouse, improving the workflow and operator ergonomics. System administrators can also now nominate the users access permissions on a case by case basis.
