About
Located within the iconic Pinewood Studios in the UK, Sony’s Digital Media Production Centre (DMPC) serves as a dynamic hub for showcasing the future of media production.
Designed as a dedicated demonstration space, the DMPC allows Sony to present its latest innovations across virtual production, live production, broadcast, and cinematic workflows.
The facility enables major production companies to experience Sony’s offerings first-hand, all within one of the world’s most prestigious film and television studio complexes.
Challenge
In May 2023, Sony upgraded their DMPC to add a virtual production space, they subsequently required a KVM system that could be moulded around the complex world of virtual production. At the time, virtual production was still a relatively new environment to navigate, but with the vast and flexible KVM solutions available today, the challenge was never too far from reach. Sony’s search for a fit-for-purpose KVM system started here, and soon after ended when they found the perfect solution, Adder Technology.

Solution
After some market deliberation and consultation from some of the professionals at Adder, the best solution for their operations was the ADDERLink® INFINITY 4000 series, paired with the ADDERLink® INFINITY Manager (AIM). The objective of this installation was to enable the seamless extension and management of high performance video, audio, and USB signals over an IP network, crucial for accessing multiple systems with 4K capabilities from a single workspace. With AIM as the central management system, Sony were provided with an intuitive, flexible platform to configure, control, and monitor all connected devices across their facility. This allows the staff at their DMPC to easily switch between critical applications and high-value production systems, all without being tied to individual workstations, ensuring ultimate flexibility and efficiency for both live and virtual production demonstrations.
Result
With the deployment of the ADDERLink INFINITY solution, Sony’s DMPC has achieved a new standard of operational efficiency and flexibility. Operators can now effortlessly control and configure the studio’s technology set up to meet any production requirement without needing to navigate complex technical systems. The system that was implemented now allows for seamless switching and management of sources at any frame rate or resolution, ensuring optimal performance across all applications. Additionally, Sony’s staff are now able to access systems remotely, giving the team greater agility for production workflows. Beyond immediate improvements, the scalable nature of the solution positions Sony to easily expand and adapt its DMPC setup as new advancements in virtual production technology emerge, providing them a future-proofing investment and reinforcing their leadership in the industry.
