It was essential that the OCC must be fully operational 24 hours a day to facilitate train service scheduling, deal with unexpected incidents such as fire or trespassing, and maintain the movement of passengers during large-scale events. Due to the time critical nature of work within the OCC, individual workstations needed to be designed in a way that maximized their ergonomic layout and operational efficiency. A video wall was also required to give operators easy and immediate access to the status of the railway line, at any point during the day.

Toluca-Mexico City commuter rail selected an Adder high performance IP KVM matrix solution which was provided by CAF Signalling to manage all I/O devices across 24 separate workstations. Each location is dedicated to a different function such as traffic control, tunnel and station management, security coordination and crisis management. By installing an IP KVM matrix, operators have full control over the number of active screens, the resolution of displays, and the input sources that are available via a single keyboard and mouse. A large multi-channel videowall comprising 28 screens was also installed to give users the ability to easily cast and share a set of source images, in any situation.

Using simple keyboard shortcuts, over 100 control room operators can seamlessly switch between any source computer from their own personal workstation to manage and co-ordinate the entire Toluca-Mexico City rail line. This prevents staff having to physically change positions and disrupt the work of other control room operators. Physical computers have been removed from the OCC, which in turn has freed up space in the user area and removed excess heat and fan noise – providing a working environment more conducive to making time-critical decisions. Operators are able to work more efficiently and productively, ensuring the safe operation and maintenance of the Toluca-Mexico City commuter rail network.

Metro Ligero selected the ADDER CCS-PRO Command and Control switch to give operators the ability to control multiple computers with just one keyboard and mouse. As the operator moves from one screen to another, the keyboard and mouse switch automatically using Adder’s Free-Flow technology. This helps negate the confusion previously caused when operators are faced with more than one mouse but without an indication of which computers they are controlling. Adder’s IP KVM solution radically streamlined the control room by allowing computers to relocated to a dedicated server room, freeing up space at the workstation and creating a quieter, cooler and more ergonomic environment for operators. Within the control room, operators receive large amounts of vital information to their own workstations, whilst a large videowall offers an overview of the complete light rail network. Metro Ligero improved workstation ergonomics and productivity by installing a high performance digital video extender and splitter, to link the video wall with each individual workstation; all of which can be operated by a single keyboard and mouse. In the case of failure, control room operators can switch remotely over IP to a redundant server, providing the absolute reliability required by the customer.

Independent Operation
Gives full control even during boot up, BIOS level or computer crash states. The ADDERLink® ipeps+ will work even if the controlled device is not operational.

High Video Performance
The ipeps+ will accept an HDMI® input up to 1920x1200 resolution. It incorporates the renowned VNC™ Viewer from RealVNC®, which provides high streaming performance, subject to available network bandwidth and content. Alternatively, it may be used with any VNC viewer that supports RFB v3 or v4. The unit may be attached to computers with DVI or DisplayPort™ DP++ (dual-mode) with a converter cable.

Highly Secure
Enterprise grade security (using AES 128 or 256-bit encryption and RSA 2048-bit public key authentication) is employed as standard. This is further enhanced by VNC, which allows the creation of ciphered user communications.

User Management
The ipeps+ can create up to 16 user profiles with defined access rights. LDAP integration with Active Directory is provided for enterprise level user authentication. Up to 8 remote users may access the unit simultaneously.

EDID Management
The ipeps+ has intelligent EDID management allowing the user to specify the video modes generated by the controlled device.

Local Console
KVM connections are available for local user access. This may be useful during emergency and system maintenance activities.

Multi-screen Computers

Adder Brings its Highly-Successful Zero U™ KVM Transmitter to InfoComm

Adder Technology, the IP-based, high performance KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) specialist, will be demonstrating its highly-acclaimed ADDERLink INFINITY 100T (ALIF100T) at InfoComm 2018 as the Zero U, USB-powered KVM transmitter continues to exceed its anticipated success following the product’s launch earlier this year.

Complimenting Adder’s existing ADDERLink Infinity range with a Zero U option, the ALIF100T simplifies the upgrading process of KVM systems from analogue to digital, while freeing up crucial rack space. As the world’s smallest KVM transmitter, it is proving increasingly popular with operators looking to update their current solution but are hindered by lack of space or the cost of redesigning their infrastructure.

In a recent Adder survey, which polled individuals responsible for KVM equipment and control room design within their company, 52% of respondents said space limitation was a major challenge in redesigning their control room with 62% citing the cost of equipment upgrades was their main barrier.

“We’ve been delighted by the response to the ALIF100T – but not surprised. According to our survey, 76% are planning to upgrade their KVM equipment during the next three years. Retrofitting high performance KVM into environments designed around legacy equipment can require a complete redesign, including recabling. However, with this new transmitter, businesses can easily and cost-effectively take advantage of the ADDERLink INFINITY solution without having to increase rack space,” said John Halksworth, senior product manager, Adder Technology.

Adder will also be demonstrating the CCS-PRO range of command and control switches with Free-Flow, audio amalgamation and a ‘keep alive’ function. Widely used for command and control applications, Adder’s innovative Free-Flow technology enables users to use a single mouse to automatically switch between target computers simply by moving the mouse pointer from screen to screen.

The unique keep alive function then provides the option to choose which computers stay alive to prevent target computers from sleeping while not in use. Users can also choose which source audio to hear as well as determine the loudness of the audio, regardless of the computer they are using.

Adder will be able to demonstrate the ability of its high performance KVM technology for InfoComm visitors thanks to its partner and multi award-winning monitor specialist, EIZO. Used by top AV professionals where accurate representation of their work and images is crucial, EIZO’s ColorEdge screens will be powered by the ADDERLink Infinity and CCS-PRO range on stand N1436 to showcase the collaborative workflow capabilities.
